The water world has been always Franck’s passion. Being a Cousteau’s true fan and admirer of the Génération Grand Bleu film from the very first moment, he was early engaged in underwater activities such as fish hunting, target shooting, hockey and fin swimming competitions. Very soon Franck focused on diving and obtained his first diving degree with the well-known Royal-Mistral breathing regulator at the age of 14, in 1979.
Next step was to become a national instructor of the French Federation of Undersea Studies and Sports (FFESSM) and a PADI dive master. During his military service period he discovered another diving technics in overhead environment and the ability to work under water.

He started exploring different technical diving styles and technics in 2009, first with the Trimix open circuit, then finally in 2010 came to the rebreather.
Due to the amount of required equipment and its arrangements for deep dives, he decided to reconsider and move to the sidemount technic in 2012. Again he enjoys the freedom and simplicity provided with this layout concept, which gives a diver a
feeling closed to the free dive.
With sidemount and cave diving technics acquired in 2015, he accentuated his effort to preserve the marine environment by minimizing his footprint at each immersion. Since then, he has devoted himself to opened and closed circuit Sidemount diving!

With appearing the first CE certified sidemount rebreather SF2 in 2015, he decided to give up the regular backmount system and turned his face to a sidemount rebreather. At the same time he met Toddy and discovered the TS concept. Convinced by its efficiency and simplicity, as soon as the IANTD recognized the concept, he passed his instructor degree in 2017.

Currently Franck is focusing his efforts on exploring T-Reb, a promising new Sidemount recycler. Since 2013, Franck Bonnet is a Nitrox, Essentials, SF2 and TS Open Water Sidemount IANTD instructor.
